Mt.
Vulture
Mt. Vulture is located in the back of the streets in Sansia
town. It is named because its shape looks like a vulture in the
sky. Although the mountain is not tall, it is very famous for
connecting the Syue Mountains and receiving their ectoplasm. The
night scenes in Mt. Vulture are more beauty than one can take
in, and the night sky glittered with a myriad stars. Beneath the
mountain, car lamps and street lights wiggle and turn into a natural
and beautiful picture. In March and April, it is the season of
Tung blossoms. As the tender fragrance infuses the body in the
woods full of Tung blossoms and the sight of shiny flowers swinging
and swirling in the breeze, you will have a feeling of blessed
revelation. |

Dongyan
Waterfall
Dongyan Waterfall is formed because of the differences
of erosion. A waterfall is a sudden drop in a river as it flows
over a rock cliff. This happens when the river passes from a layer
of hard rock to a layer of softer rock, and the water erodes away
the softer rock. |

Couhe
Birding AreaÇø
Couhe is located on the branch
point of Wuliao and Chajiao. It is an easy birding route to go
birding from Couhe Bridge to Chajiao Elementary School. According
to Wild Bird Society of Taipei¡¦s survey in 1987, there are 83
kinds of birds in Sansia and 48 kinds of birds in Couhe. The most
frequently appeared species are sparrows, aigrettes, white eyes,
Chinese bulbuls, and swallows. To avoid the cold weather, birds
migrate in the winter. Winter is the best season to observe bird
eco-system. You can see flocks of migratory birds moving into
the forest at a middle-low altitude and flocks of resident birds
moving down from a high altitude. In a day, dawn and dusk are
good timings to observe birds¡¦ rustling in flocks. |

Couhe
Valley &. Eighteen Holes

¤TSansia River is wandering and
long. Thus, the geographic landscapes are various. Above the midstream,
valley is the main geographic landscape. Couhe is the confluent
terrace of the two major branches of Sansai River, Chajiao Creek
and Wuliao Creek. Going down the terrace, an age-old bridge called
Xingxin overlooks the banks on both side of the river. The cliffy
palisades are barren, and the bottom of the river is too deep
to measure. The river strikes against the gigantic rocks and makes
convulsing sound. This is Couhe Valley.
The riverbed of Couhe Valley consists of hard rocks and it has
been corroded and cut by the river. Thus, the river runs very
turbulently in the bottom of the valley. The best representative
scene of its jagged rocks of grotesque shapes is Eighteen Holes.
Eighteen Holes is named because there are eighteen holes on the
palisade by the riverside and water patches are in each holes.
Small holes are like basins and big ones are like caves.

The
Big Leopard River
¦bNear
the river valley of the Big Leopard River, there is a gigantic
leopard-like rock. Looking at it in the distance, the rock looks
like a big leopard drinking water. As the story goes, that is
how people named it. According to the local elders, the gigantic
leopard-like rock originally was a leopard familiar. He and his
non-biological brothers, a toad familiar and an elephant familiar,
committed all sorts of crimes in the local and made people suffer.
After Zheng Chenggong killed the gigantic Parrot in Yingge and
the Vulture in Sansia, he went to the Big Leopard River for helping
the locals. Soon after meeting Zheng Chenggong, the three familiars
kneeled down, begged for forgiving, and turned into rocks. |
